Due to on-going development of equipment, the interest in climbing on frozen waterfalls has risen, now becoming a really popular sport. This offer is intended for newcomers to this alpine sport. We will show you correct crampon technique, technique for climbing on steep ice, as well as safe use of ice screws.

Traverse of the Tuxer Alps

At the Foot of the Höllenstein

After the first 300 vertical meters, a ski-touring area reveals itself before us that we had probably not expected to find here in the Zillertal. The steep rock faces of the Höllenstein, imposing gullies, long and steep cirques are reminiscent of the endless ski slopes of the Dolomites. But you can also find easy ski tours here, leading through sparse, not-too-steep forests of pine, with a real appeal even for those tourers with less lofty ambitions.

This is a designation we give to those tours that demand a certain level of physical conditioning and that, due to their remoteness, often allow for relatively few wintertime ascents. We are unable to guarantee either the snow quality or the avalanche conditions, though we can promise tours that are incomparably unique, tours that not every ski-tourer can cope with.

Basic Course - Ski Touring

This program features easy ski tours in the Tuxer Alps and environs. The climbs are moderate (400 - 800 vertical meters), and with tips from the mountain guide, you will quickly master those first sharp mountainside turns. You will learn to recognize the relationship between weather and the avalanche situation, allowing you to make the right decisions. We put climbing techniques, finding the optimal track, deep-snow technique and avalanche skills into practice.
